The elderly feel welcome and cared for in warm, friendly surroundings at the purpose-built Glaven Centre in Blakeney.
We cover the villages of Binham, Blakeney, Cley, Field Dalling, Glandford, Langham, Letheringsett, Morston, Salthouse, Saxlingham, Little Thornage, Wiveton, High Kelling and the town of Holt.
This area is one of the most remote in Norfolk, being some 30 miles from Norwich and King’s Lynn. Its elderly population is less well provided for, with fewer social services, amenities and transport, hence the need for GLAVEN CARING and its many services.
This unique concept of a comprehensive community caring scheme was founded in 1974 by the late Dr. Tony Allibone, a much loved general practitioner. It is now run by a board of trustees, management team and a general manager.
Since 1974 GLAVEN CARING has become a model of its kind and an example copied elsewhere in the country.
Bathing Services
For the less mobile, the opportunity is available for assisted bathing on the premises. Some 1000 baths are given each year by our trained and paid auxiliary nurses and bathing volunteers.
Advice, Support And Encouragement
Staff experienced in dealing with issues that can occur in older age are able to offer clients advice, support and help.
One of our major objectives is to provide support for carers, allowing some free time for themselves.
Podiatry Services
A regular toenail cutting service is offered to both clients and local residents, with regular clinics being held at the centre.
Care, Comfort And Company
To many, days at the Glaven Centre are the highlights of the week and provide an opportunity to talk to friends in warm, congenial, comfortable surroundings.
Clients have the opportunity to chat and take part in various forms of entertainment and organised stimulating activities.
